Over a contact in Amsterdam I was invited to participate during a group exhibition in the Chinese European Art Center in Xiamen, China.

I am just as enthusiastic cyclist, as also a fan of Jaques Brel. In his most wonderful song „Amsterdam “ he sings about the dockland of
Amsterdam. Exactly this area in the city sinks each year, because the sea level rises. The global warming makes the continued
existence of Amsterdam to just a question of time.
In the moment on the other side of the globe, in China, the demand for a motorized wheels increases enormously. The bicycle appears
as nostalgic relic from the socialist epoch and among young people it is frowned upon to step still in pedals by yourself. This accelerates
the melting of the pole caps - and also the sinking of Amsterdam.

For the opening of the exhibition I accomplished a performance.
After the ignition of the candles and putting the record on the record player I climbed on the bicycle. By a dynamo, which was
fixed to the bicycle, I actuated the spin of the recordplate. By this energy transfer my body connected itself with the voice of the deceased
Jaques Brel. Again he sang „Amsterdam “, which only exists in that one Live-Version, which was recorded during a concert in 1964.
A repeatable studio version of this song does not exist. Just as also there is Amsterdam only once.

A video documentation of the performance was shown on a monitor next to the installation and remained over the duration of the exhibition.

Über einen Kontakt in Amsterdam wurde ich eingeladen, bei einer Gruppenausstellung im Chinese-European-Art-Center in
Xiamen, China teilzunehmen.

Ich bin ebenso begeisterte Fahrradfahrerin, wie auch Jaques Brel-Hörerin, der in seinem wundervollen Lied „Amsterdam“ das
Hafenviertel besingt. Genau dieses Gebiet in der Stadt sinkt jährlich, denn der Meeresspiegel steigt. Die globale Erwärmung macht ihr
Fortbestehen zu einer Frage der Zeit.
Auf der anderen Seite des Globus, in China, steigt die Nachfrage nach einem motorisierten Untersatz momentan enorm. Das Fahrrad
erscheint als nostalgisches Relikt aus sozialistischer Epoche und unter jungen Leuten ist es verpönt, noch selbst in die Pedalen
zu treten. Dies beschleunigt das Abschmelzen der Polkappen - und auch den Untergang von Amsterdam.

Zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung habe ich eine Performance durchgeführt. Nach der Entzündung der Kerzen und dem Auflegen der
Platte auf den Plattenspieler bin auf das Fahrrad geklettert. Durch einen Dynamo, der am Fahrrad befestigt war, habe ich die
Umdrehung des Plattentellers in Gang gesetzt.
Durch diesen Energietransfer hat sich mein Körper mit der Stimme des (verstorbenen) Jaques Brel verbunden. Noch einmal sang er
„Amsterdam“, das übrigens nur in einer einzigen Live-Aufnahme während eines Konzertes festgehalten wurde. Eine wiederholbare
Studio-Version dieses Liedes existiert nicht. Genauso, wie es auch Amsterdam nur einmal gibt.

Eine Videodokumentation der Performance wurde auf einem Monitor neben der Installation die restliche Ausstellungsdauer über gezeigt.
